Dear Readers, since I did not meet my fundraising goal a few months ago in the Spring, and currently am facing a bit of a financial burden that may hinder me from working on this website for a while within a few days, I thought it would be best to appeal to your help to meet my goal at this time. My work here depends on your help, so if you find it beneficial or of interest, please send your financial support. It is greatly appreciated.

Synaxarion of the Holy Martyr Irene of Corinth

St. Irene the Martyr (Feast Day - April 16)

Verses

You lived in peace O Martyr Irene,
Though you died not in peace but by the sword.

She contested during the time of Pascha in the land of Greece, namely the Morea, when Saint Leonides was martyred with the holy women. With the Christians of that time she was glorifying God in a separate church, and this was made known to the ruler, for which she was arrested and placed in prison. She was then taken out of prison, had her tongue cut out, and her teeth were extracted from the root. Finally, she was beheaded, and the blessed one went up bearing a crown into the heavens.
