Synaxarion of the Holy Martyr Nikandros of Egypt

St. Nikandros of Egypt (Feast Day - March 15)

Verses

Nikandros was flayed like a lamb,
The butchers of error having laid their hands.

This Saint lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284-305). Because he was raised in piety and attached to the love of Christ's Martyrs, for this reason he labored to secretly take the holy relics of those Martyrs, who had died for the sake of piety, and buried them honorably and reverently.

One time when he saw the honorable relics of certain Holy Martyrs cast aside and unsupervised, he went by night and took them, and buried them in a place reverently and discreetly. Because a certain pagan saw him, he was accused to the governor. Therefore he arrested the Saint, who boldly confessed Christ as the true God. For this reason he was flayed like a lamb, and in this way the blessed one received the crown of martyrdom.
