Having entered the Christmas season, we ask those who find the work of the Mystagogy Resource Center beneficial to them to help us continue our work with a generous financial gift as you are able. As an incentive, we are offering the following booklet.

In 1909 the German philosopher Arthur Drews wrote a book called "The Myth of Christ", which New Testament scholar Bart D. Ehrman has called "arguably the most influential mythicist book ever produced," arguing that Jesus Christ never existed and was simply a myth influenced by more ancient myths. The reason this book was so influential was because Vladimir Lenin read it and was convinced that Jesus never existed, thus justifying his actions in promoting atheism and suppressing the Orthodox Church in the Soviet Union. Moreover, the ideologues of the Third Reich would go on to implement the views of Drews to create a new "Aryan religion," viewing Jesus as an Aryan figure fighting against Jewish materialism.

Due to the tremendous influence of this book in his time, George Florovsky viewed the arguments presented therein as very weak and easily refutable, which led him to write a refutation of this text which was published in Russian by the YMCA Press in Paris in 1929. This apologetic brochure titled "Did Christ Live? Historical Evidence of Christ" was one of the first texts of his published to promote his Neopatristic Synthesis, bringing the patristic heritage to modern historical and cultural conditions. With the revival of these views among some in our time, this text is as relevant today as it was when it was written.

Never before published in English, it is now available for anyone who donates at least $20 to the Mystagogy Resource Center upon request (please specify in your donation that you want the book). Thank you.

Big Announcement!!! (final update)

Dear Readers:

A little over a month ago I made a big announcement that the websites of this ministry were no longer going to be available for free access, instead they would only be accessed through paid subscription at the beginning of 2017. However, if I could get a total of 500 subscriptions at $5 a month or $60 a year by 2017, I would keep things as they are.

With the time having passed, I will reveal that the goal has not been met. Knowing how difficult it would be, I am not surprised by these results. However, this does not negate the fact that in just a little over a month, this announcement has prompted many of you to subscribe and support this ministry. In fact, my subscriptions have more than doubled from what they were previously. Also, the notes I have received of support and encouragement to keep things as they are have been overwhelming.

Therefore, in gratitude towards all those who have generously subscribed and supported this site, and expressed to me how deeply their affection is for what we do here, I will keep the websites of this ministry going as they are, with renewed enthusiasm on my part. Though this doesn't solve the issues that prompted this initial announcement to begin a paid subscription, my hope is that this last announcement update will prompt further support to reach the goal. Also, I do want to make it clear that this campaign is not over. I try to only seek financial support twice a year, during the Christmas and Easter seasons, thus I will extend this campaign till Easter time and will at that time revisit how many subscriptions and supporters there are to prevent a paid subscription service in the future.

With that being said, all will resume as normal tomorrow. Thank you to all. May your generosity turn into great blessings both in this new year and for the rest of your lives. All your names and those of your loved ones you sent to me will be submitted for intercessory prayer. God bless you all!

With love in Christ,

John Sanidopoulos
