Synaxarion of the Holy Hieromartyrs John the Bishop and James the Presbyter of Persia

Sts. John the Bishop and James the Presbyter of Persia (Feast Day - November 1)

Verses

With James the sacrificer of Christ by the sword,
John the sacrificer of Christ was carried off.

These Saints contested during the reign of King Shapur of Persia (309-379) in the year 332, teaching the pious the word of faith, and converting many to piety by their encouragement. For this reason they were arrested by Shapur, and at first they were tried through various tortures, and lastly their heads were cut off by the sword. Thus they delivered their souls into the hands of God, from Whom they received crowns of martyrdom.
