Elder Tadej (Thaddeus) of Vitovnica was one of the most renowned spiritual guides of Serbia in the twentieth century. As a novice he lived in obedience to Elder Ambrose of Miljkovo Monastery, a disciple of the Optina Elders. From him Fr. Thaddeus learned the Prayer of the Heart and the selfless love that came to characterize his whole ministry to the suffering Serbian people.

I am halfway through a book about Elder Thaddeus called, "Our thoughts determine our lives" published by St. Herman's Press. It's well worth a read.

Elder Thaddeus' book has become a bedside companion.
ReplyDeleteI feel his intercession strongly...becoming aware of the humble, serviceable things in my life, and healing in relationships.
We live in a global awareness unknown to the past. Christian pastors have to speak to all, not just their own community of discourse with it's peculiarities and scholarship. I love this gentle man because he teaches like Jesus would teach today...from the common denominators we all share. He also isn't squeamish about the inner realities of thought, desires, life across the veil and ourselves here.
I'm Catholic...very non partisan. Where Jesus is, there I want to be. Thanks for introducing me to very beautiful people and places.
