Chapel of Saint Athanasios the Athonite in Tsagarada of Pelion

The Chapel of Saint Athanasios the Athonite is located at an altitude of 820 meters, surrounded by oak and chestnut trees, in the village of Tsagarada in Pelion of Thessaly.

The construction date of the chapel was September 1888 as evidenced by the inscription above the main entrance. The cost was covered by Maria Demetriou Kapetanopoulou.

The Chapel of Saint Athanasios the Athonite can be reached by following the dirt road that starts from either the district of Agia Paraskevi or the district of Agioi Taxiarches. At the point where the two roads meet, is the chapel.

It is one of the most picturesque chapels of the entire Mount Pelion and it could be the ideal place for brave couples to host their wedding ceremony.

The area around the chapel has wooden tables and benches, and during the celebration of the festival of the Saint numerous residents from Tsagarada as well as the surrounding villages gather.

Despite the age and the location, the chapel is kept in a very good condition. The altitude of the chapel's location must be borne in mind as well as the fact that during the winter time the amount of snow is a quite high.
