The Holy Twelve Soldier Martyrs of Crete

Holy 12 Soldier-Martyrs of Crete (Feast Day - August 12)

Verses

The number of Cretan martyrs slain by the sword,
Is the same as the number of Christ's disciples.

Little is known of these twelve soldiers who were martyred in Crete, except that during the persecution of Maximianus and Diocletian in the year 304, on August 12th, they were slain by the sword for their Christian faith, sealing their testimony with their blood.

Apolytikion in the Third Tone
Divine and faithful symphony who assembled as one chorus, twelve in number, you bore away the trophy in Christ, and confounding the hostile authorities, you endured inconceivable tortures. Intercede for us with Christ who glorified you to grant us the great mercy.

Kontakion in Plagal of the Fourth Tone
Twelve pious soldiers who joined together in an unbroken alliance with Christ, and suppressed the hostility of the enemies of God. Taking part in the joy of martyrdom, you protected Crete which nurtured you. So we cry out to you: Rejoice, victorious troops.

Megalynarion
Rejoice, theology-speaking array of troops, in Crete you twelve hastened to carry away the trophy of victory. Rejoice, soldiers of the heavenly army and swift deliverers of those in great danger.
