Fr. George J. Nasis, the Greek-American Priest to Whom Saint Xenia of Kalamata Revealed Herself
By John Sanidopoulos
Among the first Orthodox Christian books I ever read was a four volume set titled Orthodox Saints: Spiritual Profiles for Modern Man by Fr. George Poulos. I read from this book daily when I was around 16 years old, and one of the great surprises I came across while reading these volumes was the entry for May 3rd, in which Fr. Poulos gives the account of Saint Xenia of Kalamata. There he presents information about this Saint you can't find anywhere else, though it is highly significant for Orthodoxy not only in America and Kalamata, but universally.
Three Greek Shrines Dedicated to Saint Xenia of Kalamata
The Holy Great Martyr Xenia of Kalamata, who was martyred in the early fourth century and commemorated by the Church for centuries, at some point became forgotten, until she revealed herself in visions to a Greek-American priest in the 1960's who served at the Church of the Annunciation in New York City. For this reason, we do not know of any shrines dedicated to this Saint before this time. However, with the growth of her popularity and veneration in Greece, three chapels have been dedicated to her there in recent times.

Miracles of Saint Xenia of Kalamata

St. Xenia of Kalamata (Feast Day - May 3) |
The following miracles are recorded in the Great Synaxarion:
Now it is noteworthy that Christians who happened to be in attendance at the venerable Xenia's execution and the immolation of her sacred relics, with faith, took up the ashes. This residue, through the intercessions of the Great Martyr Xenia, proved effective for the healing of incurable diseases for longtime sufferers. Thus, the good fame of the Saint circulated in the mouths of all in Peloponnesos and throughout Greece.
Now many miracles and paradoxical wonders have taken place for those who invoked the help of Saint Xenia. This phenomenon takes place to this day for those who take refuge in her, and with faith call upon her honorable name. Therefore, we shall narrate a few of those miracles to the glory of the philanthropic God, Who is glorified in His Saint, and to the benefit of your love.
