The Prison of the Apostles Paul and Silas in Philippi

Philippi, where Paul and Silas spent time in a jail cell, was a city in eastern Macedonia established by King Philip II of Macedon. The king started the city in 356 B.C., the same year his son and heir to the throne Alexander III (also known as Alexander the Great) was born. The objective of founding the town was to take control of the neighboring gold mines and to establish a garrison at a strategic passage.

Holy Apostles Sosthenes, Apollos, Kephas, Tychicus, Epaphroditus and Caesar of the Seventy

Holy Apostles Sosthenes, Apollos, Kephas, Tychicus, Epaphroditus and Caesar of the Seventy
(Feast Day - December 8)

Verses

To Sosthenes
Sosthenes brings might to you my Christ,
Having saved many and clothing them with might.

To Apollos
Apollos had grace together with words,
Persuading many towards God to revere the Word.

To Kephas
Kephas hastened to imitate Peter,
Showing his calling by bringing works.

To Tychicus
Tychicus does not mean by chance.
He was an Apostle by nature.

To Epaphroditus
Epaphroditus guarded his work with his right hand,
And at the right hand of the Father he beholds the Word.

To Caesar
Caesar reigned prudently,
Bringing souls to Christ the King.
