How the Official Canonization of Saint Philoumenos of Jacob's Well Came About

The decision for the canonization of Fr. Philoumenos was made by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem at the insistence of Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou. Metropolitan Neophytos said the following about this in 2009, after he did a trisagion at the grave of the parents of St. Philoumenos, in their native village of Orunda in Cyprus:

In a 2017 sermon, Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou spoke the following words about Eldress Galaktia, without naming her, recalling a visit he made to see her in Crete together with Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol.

I know a holy woman in Crete, an old woman, a nun, a great saint. When she reposes it will be understood. Even the people of Crete have not come to recognize her value.

I was with the Metropolitan of Limassol, and I told him: "I know this holy woman, let's go see her." We went.

She described our character, our health issues, our problems, our Metropolises, and even said something about each of our futures. It was amazingly accurate.

The Prophetic Gift of Eldress Makaria of Nea Makri

The Holy New Martyr Ephraim the Newly-Appeared was martyred, and he was found by our most venerable mother Makaria, whom God has found me worthy to get to know very well.

She was, to tell you the truth, the first who received me as a Bishop.

I was then twenty years old and wearing pants. She came out of the monastery and said to one of her nuns, Ephraimia:

"Go, my child, three clergy are coming."

"Madness With Meaning" - A True Miracle Story of Crazy-John

 

 

The following story was told by Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou based on the testimony of a certain lady he knows who was a spiritual child of Elder Eumenios, who had given her before his venerable repose the cane of Saint Nikephoros the Leper as well as a portion of his sacred relics. This blessed soul, said the Metropolitan, was close with the late famous Crazy-John (Trelo-Yiannis), whose name in the world was Constantine, about whom, as is well-known, books have been written, albeit in a "fictional" style.

In a certain church in Athens, on the formal and festive day of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, the faithful entered, holding icons they had brought from their homes, in commemoration of the restoration of the icons on this bright day. During this Service the lady who is well known to us was present, who at one point saw Crazy-John enter the church, holding above his head a flowerpot with withered flowers! During the procession of the sacred icons, which takes place on this day in some churches, certain Christians were making fun of Crazy-John, for his strange "lifting" of the flowerpot. This good lady of ours, who was processing with Crazy-John, tried to knock some sense into him, saying: "My Constantine, put down the flowerpot now! You're not being serious on such a day and time!" He responded to her: "What you see, is madness with meaning! You see a flowerpot. In the end you will see everyone fall down in veneration!"

Police Find No Criminal Offense in the Case of the Metropolitan of Morphou

Cypriot police have not found any criminal offense committed by Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou in relation to his statements on homosexuality and therefore it is doubtful whether he will be prosecuted.

With this suggestion, the Legal Service now has the case file, which is being considered by the Attorney General.

Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou Issues Statement Pending Police Investigation

With the help and grace of God the fasts and supplications to the Most Holy Theotokos have been completed. Let us keep our eyes fixed on her grace.

Let us continue, whoever is willing and able, to ask for her saving intercessions for the sufferings that lurk among us, for the fires to cease, for the prevention of earthquakes, for the liberation of the seas of Cyprus.

What we thought was a long way off, is nearer. The prophetic words of our contemporary saints, show us that the path to eliminating evil, and reducing evil in the world, passes through our personal repentance.

In regards to another fire, that of the flesh, the Holy Spirit and evil spirits, which some have ignited for us, we will not make any comment, fully respecting the relevant police investigation being conducted.

How the Books About Saint Paisios the Athonite From Souroti Were Written

I asked the abbess Philothei: "Those important books about Elder Paisios, how were they written? Was it just how every nun remembered?"

She told me: "No. The Elder would come to the monastery, and we would have a gathering, where he would speak to the nuns. Then he would see each nun one by one separately. The Holy Spirit was at those gatherings. We knew that a God-bearing man was speaking to us. Then the nuns would come to me afterwards and say: 'Eldress, I wrote the things I heard from the Elder.' The nuns didn't have recorders, just their memories. 'Do we have the blessing to write the things the Elder told us?' they asked. I told them that whatever you hear from the Elder, write it down, but bring it to me. I wanted to ask the Elder first about it, and if he wanted them to stop then we would. In this way entire notebooks were written.
