The Sunday of Orthodoxy in Kerkyra

There is a special celebration every year on the Sunday of Orthodoxy in Kerkyra, since this is where the incorrupt relics of St. Theodora the Empress is kept. It was under this Empress Theodora that the Holy Icons were restored following Iconoclasm, and the Holy Synod of 843 took place which established the Sunday of Orthodoxy.

At the Sacred Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos Speliotissis, where the Holy Relic of St. Theodora is kept, the Metropolitan of Kerkyra celebrates a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, after which a procession with the Holy Relic takes place. With priests carrying the Holy Relic and other clergy carrying Holy Icons, a procession with hundreds of people go to the Church of the Panagia of the Stranger, where the Synodikon of Orthodoxy is read by the Metropolitan.
