Synaxarion of Saint Attalos the Wonderworker

St. Attalos the Wonderworker (Feast Day - June 6)

Verses

You were a wonderworker Attalos while alive, indeed strange,
You were a wonderworker later also alone in the earth.

Venerable Attalos abandoned the world and the things of the world, became a monk, and occupied himself in every form of asceticism, namely fasting, vigils and every other laborious toil. For he ate only once every two or three days, many times every five days. He never slept on his side, but either while sitting or standing, during which he would get a little sleep, as much as would comfort the weakness of nature. By these labors, he received much grace from the Lord, and was enriched with many miraculous actions. Whereby not only did the renowned one show rational people immeasurable sympathy, but also irrational animals. With such virtues and miracles, he passed his life. As his end was approaching, he prompted those who were with him to give him their last embrace in Christ, and he delivered his soul into the hands of God.
