The 10th Century Church of Saint Paul in Sfakia, Crete

On picturesque Agios Pavlos beach in Sfakia, Crete stands a tenth century church dedicated to the Apostle Paul. This church was built by St. John the Stranger, who built other monasteries and churches in the area, to commemorate the baptisms performed by St. Paul in this area on his way to Rome.

The church is cruciform in shape and built from stones found on the beach. The frescoes date to approximately the thirteenth century.
