A few months ago I posted the article written by Temo Bardzimashvili titled "Georgian Monk Builds Stairway to Heaven". The article reports about Father Maxim, a native of Chiatura in Georgia who has wanted to live atop the Katskhi pillar as a Stylite since childhood. With the help of local villagers and money from donors throughout Georgia he is rebuilding the church. Once finished, he hopes to receive permission from the Patriarch to fulfill that dream.
Stephen Riehl is an independent filmmaker based in the Pacific Northwest who is currently working with Temo to develop a feature length documentary film based on his article. The working title is, The Stylite: A Matter Of Faith.
