Romanian Church Declares 2013 'the Year of Father Dumitru Staniloae'

February 1, 2013

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania has declared 2013 to be dedicated to Father Dumitru Staniloae. This was to confirm the decision of the Holy Synod of Romania, and was proclaimed in the Church of Saint Spyridon following the Divine Liturgy for the feast of the Three Hierarchs on January 30th.

"Fr. Dumitru Staniloae was a teacher of Orthodox spirituality and the spiritual life. He was a vigilant protector of Orthodoxy, a guide and teacher of the theology of humility, a translator of Patristic treasures, and a tireless author of theological and spiritual works," said the Pariarch in his homily.

The Patriarch noted elsewhere: "Fr. Dumitru was a prototype priest, and is considered the greatest theologian of the twentieth century. He left a great inheritance to our Church."

To be noted, throughout the year there will be various events dedicated to the person and work of Fr. Dumitru Staniloae.
