Saint Euthymius the Schemamonk of the Kiev Caves

St. Euthymius the Schemamonk of the Kiev Caves (Feast Day - January 20)

Venerable Euthymius the Schemamonk of the Kiev Caves imposed upon himself a vow of silence, opening his mouth only for church services and for prayer. The silent schemamonk did not eat anything cooked with fire and ate only herbs. He was buried in the Far Caves of Saint Theodosius at the Kiev Caves Lavra probably in the fourteenth century. Now he enjoys the food of paradise and with angels he silently praises God and prays for us. According to the results of biochemical testing, he died at the age of 30-40 years.
