According to news sources from Kefallonia, the first and only snake so far made its appearance in the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the village of Arginia at 1:00 in the morning on Monday, August 11th, and this was followed by the bells joyfully peeling for the delightful and much anticipated event.
When the sacred snakes failed to appear in both Arginia and Markopoulo on August 6th, as they do every year, panic struck many in Kefallonia, since in two previous years when they failed to appear it seemed to mean some sort of disaster was coming to the island. Now that one of the snakes has appeared, the people feel relieved and their prayers are answered.
