30 Photos From the Litany of St. Nicholas of Velikoretsky

On Tuesday 3 June 2013 began the annual 800 kilometer litany/procession with the wonderworking icon of St. Nicholas in Velikoretskoye, Russia. This annual event has been taking place for more than 600 years, though in 1930 it was outlawed by Soviet authorities. The original icon itself was lost with the destruction of Vyatkian Trinity Cathedral in 1935, but in 1989 the annual litany resumed with an accurate copy of the original icon. It is estimated that 30,000 people are participating.
