Hi John,
ReplyDeleteDo you know why St. Maximos is celebrated today in the East but in August in the west? Also, do we celebrate him on both days or only today?
Thanks,
Chris
It is not exactly certain, but August 13th was either the date of his death or the date when his relics were transferred to Constantinople. Because August 13th falls on the leave-taking of the feadt of the Transfiguration, the Church celebrates his feast on August 12th. January 21 also was either the date of his death or the date his relics were transferred to Constantinople.
