Assuming he continues down this blasphemous path and does not repent ... it will be interesting to see what the end of his life will be like!I heard the last major atheist that influenced the 'public stream of thought' (late 1800s) hugged a donkey and ended up a madman. He died in a pshyc ward (moral: an unrepentant man who has messed with God - invites 'demon possession' into his soul.
Friedrich Nietzsche is the person you are referring to. To be fair to objectivity, what actually happened remains unknown, but the often-repeated tale states that Nietzsche witnessed the whipping of a horse at the other end of the Piazza Carlo Alberto, ran to the horse, threw his arms up around the horse’s neck to protect it, and collapsed to the ground. In the following few days, Nietzsche sent short writings — known as the Wahnbriefe ("Madness Letters") — to a number of friends. Within a week of the original incident he was submitted into a psychiatric clinic. As to what the cause of his mental breakdown, we obviously cannot determine today, but some say it was a mental breakdown reflective of his despairing philosophy. In cases like this, sometimes demon possssion isnt required to make one mad.
Yes it was Nietzsche I had in mind. I know we can rationalise the situation, however, have we not read enough from (old) writings to know that it is not a coincidence? Either way, he is a pivotal point in the society inclination towards atheism from the 1900's onwards. Its sad. You certainly know a lot John! Thank God for that.
